Pie Fries

Recently I began searching for a good pie recipe.  I love fruit pies but I hardly ever make them since my kiddos are not fans.  Let's face it, I have made them kind of partial to eating and loving all things cake.  While I was on my quest for a yummy recipe, I stumbled upon Pie sticks (otherwise knows as Pie Fries).  I could NOT believe that I had never EVER heard of these before.  What a simple way to bake up your favorite pie. It's easy to eat, mess free and a snap to bake.  Not only that, but because you can customize them, they make the perfect addition to any dessert table.  Love it!

You can use your favorite pie crust recipe or do it the easy way and roll out purchased pie dough.  I used Pillsbury refrigerated Pie Crust.    Not only does it taste great but it's mess free because you won't need to flour your counter-top.

Cut thin strips using a pizza wheel or your favorite fondant cutter and embosser.  You can purchase the one I used here Wilton

Next, take your pizza wheel and cut a large square to level out the edges and once down the middle width wise to create small fries.

Melt your butter and apply to strips of pie crust that are on parchment paper.  Then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.  You can purchase them already combined at the grocery store.  It looks like this

Bake at 350 for 7 minutes or until lightly browned. Watch them!!! They will burn easily if you don't know your oven.

Mine has hot pockets so I know which side to take out first.

You can use any pie filling you like.  I am partial to cherry.  My kids, however, do not like pie.  If you have weird kids like mine (honestly, who doesn't like pie) then have them dip the pie fries in their favorite Jam or pudding.

I don't think you could go wrong here.

Make paper cones using your favorite scrapbook paper like I did or purchase little paper bags at your local craft store.  You can find lots of  ways to serve these little cuties.

Pie Fries

Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust
1 can of pie filling (any flavor)
Cinnamon and sugar to taste
4 Tablespoons melted salted butter
Parchment paper
Serving dish and bowl for dipping

Preheat oven to 350.  Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.  Roll out purchased pie dough on counter.   Use pie cutter or pizza wheel to cut thin strips.   Lay each strip on parchment lined cookie sheet.  Brush each strip with melted salted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.  Be generous with this step.

Bake for 7 minutes or until lightly golden brown.  If you don't know your oven, they can burn very easily so keep an eye on them.

Cool and place on serving dish or scrapbook cone.  Dip in Jam, Pie Filling or Pudding.  Enjoy!!

  1. I'm in my 50s and my grandmother made pies every week and she use to make these. Then when I had kids I started making them.

  2. I love this idea! My kids would love it too. We always use the leftover pie crust to make cookies, but never the whole curst. What was I thinking? My mom made cookies with the leftovers too with cinnamon and sugar, and I always hated it. I found that I don't like the cinnamon on it, just sugar? I love cinnamon on just about everything, so that threw me, but still. Love!

I'm visiting from SITS. I'm going to have to keep an eye on you, ~ new follower.

  4. Looks so good! I wonder how it'd be dipped in vanilla ice cream.
