National Capital Area Cake Show 2011

This is the second year that I participated in the National Capital Area Cake Show in Annandale, Virginia and I have to say, each year it get's better.  I learned so much from all who entered and it's a fun opportunity to shop for cake tools, supplies, ingredients and take classes to improve your skills as a cake designer.  I entered the Semi-professional novelty-tiered catargory and won second place for my hat box cake.  My cake inspiration came to me while thinking of a way to incorporate painting on the cake.  This is the first time I have attempted this and the judges loved it the most.  I was blown away it all came together and I am so honored to have taken part in such an amazing event.

Hand painted Chandelier

My inspiration

Fondant roses

( The judges didn't like mine but in my defense, it was my first shot at these)

I have a lot of practicing to do!

On the other hand, it was my first time painting with food coloring too and these roses turned out great.

before judging at the show

Cakes I was up against.

The one next to me got first place.

After judging! Yipee...I was so happy to place at all.

This picture is from my phone (sorry, it's bad)
