Gingerbread house decorating

Every year my family and I are fortunate to attend a Gingerbread house decorating Christmas party at the Ritz Carlton at Pentagon city.  The kids look forward to this event due to the festive nature of the ballroom that is fully decked out for Christmas complete with a sparkly tree, a whimsical candy buffet, yummy food and Christmas carols playing in the background.   The pastry chef gives the kids a quick lesson on gingerbread house decorating basics, then it's a free for all, mad dash to the candy buffet.  With staff on hand to be at your beck and call, parents can sit back enjoy a light lunch and sip coffee and maybe even nibble on a favorite confection (the kids won't miss it ).  It's a wonderful memory to make each year and one I am truly grateful for.  I thought I would share my pictures with you and include a recipe for Gingerbread so you can bake one at home with your little elves this holiday season.

The lunch buffet included Sugar cookies,
brownies, gingerbread men, rustic deli sandwiches,
Christmas tree shaped Pb and J,  gourmet chips, Greek salad and even homemade marshmallows.

I must admit, I made a few trips

even my 11 year old got into it.

decorations everywhere and as the kids would say
"this place is very fancy"!

The homemade marshmallow was heaven in my coffee.

All the children grabbed a wrapped box to take there gingerbread houses home in.

Happy baking/decorating,
