spider web cake

This Halloween spook your guests with a spectacular Spider web cake. First bake your favorite cake (I chose devils food for obvious reasons).  Let the cake cool and then stick it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes or so to firm up.  Next, make a Chocolate Glaze and let come to room temperature.  Pour over the top and gently spread over the sides until completely covered.  To make the web, fill a small piping bag with three to four tablespoons of melted white chocolate.  Then starting at the center of the top of the cake, pipe the white chocolate in a spiral.  Work fast here because the white chocolate will harden quickly.  Drag a toothpick from the center of the spiral to the cake's edge. Repeat every 1.5 inches to create a web effect.   Stick back in the refrigerator to set chocolate then bring to room temp before serving.  This also works well with royal icing on sugar cookies but I'm partial to cake, what can I say?

Happy Halloween!
