Sweetie Pies!

Sweetie pies are a creative and yummy way to say I love you to someone special.  With just a few store bought ingredients and 12 minutes to bake,  you can whip these up on the cheap and in a jiffy.   They are perfect for gifting to a teacher on Valentines Day or tucking in your child's lunchbox with a special note to remind them how much you love them. The kids and I baked ours for my Hubby. We are including them in a care package we are sending him because he is away for training with the Air National Guard for four months in a land far far away.  Okay, he's in Texas but that's 22 hours from us, so to me... it's a land far far away. It's like sending love in the mail and a tasty treat from home to remind my "Sweetie Pie" how much we all love and miss him.

Let's get down to it.

First, beat an egg (or egg white if you choose) in a bowl and get out your pastry brush.  You will also need granulated sugar for sprinkling.  Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and take out your ungreased cookie sheet.

Unroll your pie crust.  The kind that comes in a box in the refrigerated section of your Grocery store.
Then use your heart cutter ( or any one you fancy) and press.  You'll need two hearts for each pie.

Basically this is pretty much how you make these bad boys.  There isn't any baking tips or tricks to follow.  It's as easy as 1 2 3 4!  Just like the picture shows.  Once completed, pop them in the oven to bake.

Oh, how pretty all baked and ready to eat.  My Sweetie Pie will love these Sweetie Pies.

I had to try one.  You know, quality control.   But I think a sprinkle of powdered sugar will make them more romantic!

Enjoy my dear Sweetie Pie...I love you and miss you.

Sweetie Pies

Ingredients

1 Box of pie crust
1 can of cherry pie ( or any flavor)
1 egg
Sprinkle of granulated sugar
Sprinkle of powdered sugar (optional)

Directions
  1. preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. unroll pie crust on lightly floured surface
  3. place cookie cutter on top and press until completely cut through (you will need two pieces for one pie)
  4. Place pie dough on ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. fill with 1 tablespoon ( I added about three cherries) in middle of each cut piece of dough
  6. Moisten edges with egg using a pastry chef
  7. Place second pie crust on top and gently press edges with a fork
  8. Brush entire pie with more egg
  9. Sprinkle with granulated sugar

Bake for 12 minutes in a preheated oven set at 350  degrees until golden brown.  Beware that cherry may ooze out...that's okay.  It's a pie..it's supposed to be Ooey and Gooey.

Place on a wire rack to cool.  If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Happy Baking,
