A look at New York City's Magnolia Bakery

When a good friend spotted Magnolia Bakery on a recent trip to New York City, she couldn't resist picking me up an apron and recent cookbook.  At the time she didnt know that I already own one of their cookbooks and was a huge fan.  I also have a previous post about there Oatmeal muffins and use some of their recipes for my business Buttercream.  The bakery is known for it's southern roots and scratch recipes using simple ingredients.
But don't understimate the power of a Magnolia Bakery treat. These desserts have a fanatic following, and it's easy to understand why--nothing on the menu administers anything less than a spectacular dose of homemade goodness.  Always baked from scratch on the premisis daily, (and we're not just talking cupcakes here folks)  try their addictive red velvet cake that comes slathered in homemade cream cheese icing. Or try a slice of the decadent "cherries jubilee," a moist mini cheesecake or the legendary banana pudding.

But nothing compares to the ambiance of the bakery located at 401 Bleecker Street New York, NY 10014. Okay, so I didn't see it myself, but Tanya (my thoughtful friend and gift giver) raved about it.  Plus, I saw pictures.  It's yummy and dreamy!

Did you know Magnolia Bakery was accredited for starting the cupcake craze in the 1990's?

Even Suri Cruise approves!  (yes, she's actually eating a Magnolia cupcake)

The perpetually long lines might be due to the bakery's "Sex and the City" fame that featured Miranda and Carrie devouring their cupcakes on numerous episodes.   I was an avid fan of the show and truthfully this is where I first heard of the bakery.

Love Love Love all the signs, cake plates and Vintage decor.  Very shabby chic and cozy.   Hopefully some day I will be able to see it for myself in person.  I already know there cupcakes are good ( I bake from their cookbooks all the time).  But I want to "feel" the bakery too!

Click and print Magnolia Bakery's Vanilla Cupcakes and buttercream frosting recipe and tell me what you think.

Enjoy!
