Earth day sugar cookies

Since Earth Day is April 22, I decided to acknowledge this special day by making a sweet statement.  This sugar cookie recipe is foolproof and simple to make.  The royal icing is made with meringue powder instead of eggwhites for safety since these little planets will be consumed by a bunch of tiny Earthlings.

Roll out your sugar cookie dough on a floured surface

Use a circle cookie cutter (any size) to cut out your planets

HOT TIP:

Place on a cookie sheet with parchment paper and put in the Refridgerator for 10 minutes before popping in the oven.

This will keep the cookies from spreading while baking

Nice circles!

Let cool completely.  Make your Royal Icing.

Split three ways.   Tint blue, green and leave a third of it white

Outline in blue with a squeeze bottle

My outlines need help...hopefully you have a steadier hand!

Don't fill all the way with the blue.  The other colors will fill the bare spots.

See?  White for clouds, blue for the Ocean

...green for the land.

Woops!  I think I overdid the white

Off to school they go!

Happy Baking!
